Digital Production Editor
Bain & Company seeks an experienced online content manager with an eye for detail and a dedication to editorial quality. The Digital Production Editor will be responsible for posting content directly to Bain.com, using his or her editorial judgment and skill to ensure that content meets Bain’s rigorous standards of quality and accuracy before it is made available to clients, the media and the public. Working independently on individual projects within a three-person team of Production Editors, the Digital Production Editor manages day-to-day publishing of specific publications on Bain.com, as well as Bain electronic newsletters, and ensures that they meet established Bain standards of appearance and content.
This role requires assigning charts and other supporting graphics to Bain’s designers and providing them with guidance, based on the content, on how best to execute the designs. Once the HTML is complete, the Digital Production Editor will also ensure that the designers accurately render the online content as a PDF. The Digital Production Editor collaborates with the Manager of Manuscripts, the other Production Editor and the Manuscript Editors to ensure that Bain works-in-process flow smoothly from manuscript/concept to final production and posting. .
A critical part of the role is ensuring that copyedited text (in Word) is accurately posted online and that charts (in PowerPoint) are accurately rendered as online SVG files by Bain’s designers. The Digital Production Editor will also work with Bain Partners and Practice Editors to resolve any last minute issues with the presentation of Bain’s thought leadership, making judgment calls about content presentation and devising practical solutions while also enforcing Bain’s editorial and online styles.The Digital Production Editor may also provide design and copyediting support for other formats (e.g., social media posts).
In addition, the Production Editor provides editorial design, copyediting and other support on an as-needed basis for projects.
Guide internal manuscripts and other materials through the design stage of editorial production to final online posting as HTML and generation of a supporting PDF on Bain.com
Enforce editorial and online style requirements and, when necessary, educating internal customers about Bain’s style guide and online requirements.
Keep Practice Editors apprised of status of Briefs during Design and alert them in advance when a publication will be ready for author review.
Be available as needed to post, alter or remove content.
Continuously monitor production schedules as recorded in Kapost and during Editorial meetings, adjusting accordingly as issues arise, and communicating any adjustments to the Deputy Editor,
Digital Editors and Digital Mailing team as necessary
Advise the Deputy Editor, Digital Editors and Mailing Team of any schedule delays as they occurOversee the work of Editorial Designers and freelance proofreaders on a project-by-project basis
Ensure that all online content (Briefs and other content types, including video) has been proofed to meet zero-defect expectations
Generate improvement in process and tracking of copy flow
Keep current on technological advances that could help Bain’s overall production process
Collaborate with the Digital Editors and Deputy Editor in the development of an integrated online and print style guide to ensure accuracy and consistency of editorial voice on the web
Manage copyright and permissions
Strong working knowledge of CMS systems—experience working with EpiServer preferred
Excellent copyediting and quality assurance skills; meticulous attention to detail
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Ability to work independently and without supervision, ensuring that projects are completed and content is available when needed by other parts of the Marketing Department, including the Digital
Mailing team, local event coordinators and other stakeholders.
Ability to work directly with Bain’s partners to solve concerns or issues related to the presentation of content and to respond rapidly to their requests for content when needed for client work.
Knowledge of project management/scheduling techniques; ability to work well under pressure and monitor multiple deadlines
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator preferred
Ability to work well with multiple teams within Bain’s Consulting Support Services, including Online Marketing Team, Design Team, PR Team and local offices
Demonstrated experience and strong working knowledge of online publishing and design requirements
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator preferred, but not required
5 - 8 years of experience in an editorial/publishing environment
Experience working in a consulting or professional services firm environment strongly preferred
Minimum of five years managing editorial production at a business or technical publication required
Minimum of five years overseeing and maintaining a large stable of active freelance relationships
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalent in combination of education, training and experience
