The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for a Senior Publications Manager tooversee the manuscript peer-review and production process. The Manager will work closely with the Editors-in-Chief, the Editorial Manager, and Production Manager to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the Editors. In addition, there will be regular collaboration with the Scientific Operations Manager to collaborate on key reporting metrics, staffing and support for the Scientific Publications Committee, and the planning and execution of special projects.\r\rESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.\r\r Serves as primary contact for the Editors-in-Chief of both journals to handle operational and day-to-day matters and provide critical triage-level support to arising challenges/problems and emerging opportunities for strategic prioritization.\r Oversees and manages all operational elements of the editorial and productions processes for both journals, including the following:\r \r Ensures the manuscript processing system functions optimally and meets the needs of the editors, reviewers, and authors.\r Ensures the journal sites are functioning correctly and content is posted on time and error free.\r Stays current with the upgrades, product offerings, and roadmap of the online vendor and provides feedback on initiatives important to the Society.\r Ensures errors, bugs, and necessary changes to the online journals are resolved timely.\r Ensures online features such as videos and other non-scientific content and produced and published as required.\r Works with appropriate vendors to test and implement new initiatives.\r Supports authors, reviewers, and editors in the manuscript submission and review process.\r Ensures the timely and accurate payment of editor honoraria.\r \r \r Oversees the Editorial and Production Managers in ensuring smooth operations and a quality user experience for members in their interactions with the journals.\r Reviews with the Director the Editors'-in-Chief requests for system and process changes and new initiatives, assesses feasibility, and schedules quarterly roll-out of new projects.\r Prepares accurate and timely material for budgeting and forecasting.\r Supports the editorial boards by ensuring meetings are scheduled, minutes are provided, and agendas are developed as requested by the editors-in-chief. Provides ongoing operational support and monitors activities for strategic opportunities.\r Provides data, information, and technical expertise to the Scientific Operations Manager for the purpose of data analysis, efficient communications, and process understanding. Also collaborates on key projects or strategic initiatives.\r
Supervisory Experience:\r\r Supervises two direct reports.\r Delegates effectively, communicates expectations clearly, and provides professional development opportunities.\r\r\rEducation and Experience:\r\r Bachelor's degree required. Degrees in journalism or communications preferred.\r A minimum of 5 years of related professional experience required. Nonprofit and scholarly publications preferred.\r A minimum of 2 years of supervisory or team lead experience required.\r Experience with eJournal Press is a plus.\r\r\rPreferred Qualifications:\r\r Demonstrated success in managing projects to completion, on time and within budget.\r Proven ability to set priorities, take initiative, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.\r Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.\r Strong customer service skills.\r Good negotiation skills.\r Ability to collaborate with and build bridges amongst departments.\r Ability to use good judgement and to be diplomatic with sensitive situations.\r Able to work in a fast-paced and team environment.\r\r\rIf this is you and you are eager to make meaningful contributions to a highly relevant and important mission, please submit a cover letter with your salary requirements and a copy of your resume for consideration.
