SUMMARY: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (LBYR) is seeking an editorial assistant who is passionate and knowledgeable about children’s book publishing . The Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief as well as an Editor-at-large, involved in all stages of the acquisition, editorial, and book making processes for picture books, middle grade, and young adult fiction and nonfiction. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Enter, maintain, and track data throughout the publishing processWrite catalog, flap/cover and other copy, and prepare title fact sheetsRead, report on, log in, track, and respond to submissions of projects targeted to children and young adultsGenerate and track contract and payment requestsLiaise with other departments, especially in trafficking editorial projects through production, copy editing, marketing, etc.Facilitate interoffice and external communications re: title status, etc.Request production cost quotes and prepare profit-and-loss statementsTake/distribute meeting minutesUpdate reprint corrections and manage paperback reprintsManage digital editionsBe aware of social media trendsPerform administrative duties, including: scheduling, photocopying, handling mail, filing, directing/responding to inquiries, misc. research projects, etc. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in children's literatureMinimum of one year of publishing or media experience preferred (internships ok), or other administrative work experienceExcellent organizational, administrative, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and computer (including MS Office and databases) skillsProven ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This includes the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively while delivering timely, accurate work product and demonstrating good follow up and follow throughMust be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as neededDrives change and innovation by improving work product or process, and challenges established norms where appropriateBachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Arts or Media Studies preferred
