College degree in marketing, communications, literature, creative writing or a related field.
Additional Qualifications:
3 plus years of experience performing communication, marketing and writing duties; ideal candidates will have training and/or experience in journalism, creative writing, language arts, public relations, communications, advertising, or marketing. Preference for academic and work-related experiences in science, technology, horticulture, photography, design, or gardens and museums. Candidate must have strong and demonstrable skills as a writer as well as strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and an attention to accuracy and detail.
Two writing samples will be required - a short web writing or marketing piece of no more than 500 words and a long feature story of no more than 1500 words.
Position requires a working knowledge of social media channels, email marketing, and other digital tools such as social media management platforms as well as Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and MS Office software. Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Must be able to work independently and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

The full-time position of Marketing and Communications Specialist offers an exceptionally motivated candidate the opportunity to investigate key aspects of the Arboretum’s mission including public programs for education and community engagement; scientific and horticultural initiatives; and Member cultivation and stewardship. The position requires a variety of skills including creative writing, content creation and strategy, special event promotion, media relations, marketing, and design. The ideal candidate will possess the abilities needed to contribute substantively to the Arboretum’s outreach efforts among its diverse constituencies and in collaboration with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and the greater Boston, horticultural, and scientific communities.
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will work closely with the Advancement team, and in particular, the Associate Director of External Relations and Communications, to execute and support a full range of communications and marketing services:
Create strategic and compelling written, audio, and visual stories to promote Arboretum events, programs, and news;
Design all print materials for the Advancement office, including but not limited to Annual Reports, Silva (bi-yearly magazine), brochures, flyers, event related materials (signs, invitations, etc….), fundraising appeals, advertisements, and other collateral;
Collaborate on content for digital platforms including web pages, e-newsletter, blog posts, social media, and appeals;
Contribute input to all fundraising, marketing, event, and public program strategies;
Research, analyze, and create new types of marketing and promotion content such as video, infographics, or other;
Coordinate brand style strategies for the Arboretum’s print and digital identity;
Write and edit articles for Silva, the Annual Report, blog posts, and other print or digital collateral;
Capture, edit, and post photographs of the Arboretum, its collections, and activities;
Share website maintenance duties such as creating/updating content and website strategy initiatives such as user testing, content strategy, and redesign;
Maintain and build lists and relationships with media and constituents
