Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Product Incubator, the Associate Director works with internal cross-functional teams, external consultants, and startups to manage the innovation process from Experiment to MVP to Launch. The Associate Director ensures projects are on track and helps teams understand and implement design thinking and iterative testing processes. The Associate Director will help ensure the team has appropriate resources and processes, while helping multiple teams at different stages from beginning to scale multiple MVPs to be transferred to HBP core teams or killed. A board range of skills are expected to do what is needed to create and facilitate Incubator projects, including product management, marketing, customer service, sales, and other activities necessary to drive urgency and velocity to fail or scale experiments. The Associate Director is a highly skilled problem solver and works to overcome any obstacles to success. 

You will serve as a change agent who is passionate about the mental, operational and emotional challenges of innovation and you will work cross-functionally with HBP teams to drive innovation. You facilitate change by incorporating human-centered design, user researcher, the scientific method and lean methodology. Your role is to help create new products and services, increase organizational capabilities and learnings, and explore new technologies, audiences and channels. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with Director to manage and forward a portfolio of experiments in the Product Incubator that explores new ideas, technologies, products, markets, and business models 

• Create and lead projects and help manage project teams through each phase of the of the Incubator cycle, including experiments, MVPs and launch 

• Manage Senior Editor and contract editors in Incubator 

• Engage and manage external resources to achieve project goals, including working with consultants, design firms, startups and other partners 

• Research new technologies and partnership opportunities for experimenting in the Incubator 

• Synthesize recommendations and plan of action from feedback, user research, and workshop output 

• Participate in and lead internal innovation activities including hacks and shark tanks. 

• Teach teams in the Incubator to move confidently from idea to execution in ways that increase success and reduce failure 

o Lead cross-functional teams comprising creative and analytical backgrounds through project phases: experimentation, MVP, and launch 

o Provide training and support in lean and human-centered design methods so that teams can build internal capacity 

o Champion the scientific method for rapid validation and iteration of ideas in a lean methodology setting 

Requirements:

• Startup or entrepreneurial experience, or experience working with startups to partner and/or co-create products and solutions 

• Product management and marketing skills 

• Ability to apply service and product design methods 

• Prototyping and understanding relevant metrics to use for testing 

• Strong communicator and public speaker. Comfortable presenting to executive and leadership teams 

• Experience managing and/or mentoring
