Publications Editor','190440','KNW-A','!*!Job Summary: The overall purpose of this role is to help facilitate the smooth and fair selection of manuscripts for publication. This is done in accordance with all IEEE policies and publishing standards. This position provides a pivotal point of interaction with authors, associate editors, and reviewers, as well as other volunteers, which is necessary for scheduling, quality control, financial administration, and consistent operational activities for this journal. The position influences expenditures, since there are substantial costs involved in producing the journal. This role will report to the Managing Editor and will have no direct reports. Essential Functions: Assists the Managing Editor, the volunteer Editor-in-Chief (EIC), and the Editorial Board in planning and carrying out all up-front editorial aspects of publishing. Involves extensive interactions with Associate Editors, reviewers, authors, and Editorial Board members in support of planning, quality control, reviewing, and readying for production all materials for publication.  Coordinates the onboarding of new Associate Editors and retiring of those at the end of their term, maintaining an active spreadsheet for tracking.Communicates review results and handling internal and external general questions regarding journal; Liaises with volunteer editors, authors, and reviewers in review process to meet deadlines; provides guidance and technical support on web-based manuscript submission and peer review system; liaises with authors, and staff members to ensure materials needed for production are delivered in a timely manner.Proactively supports all journal objectives, including quality, schedule, budget, editorial board communications, and special projects, including the annual Editorial Board MeetingInvestigates misconduct and ethical cases as needed, communicating with all concerned parties and escalating when required.Schedules and implements recurring requirements in support of administrative and editorial calendar, including coordinating annual Editorial Board meeting, preparing freelance contracts, administering nominations of new editorial board members, preparing PSPB reports and other projects as required.Perform website updates on current content, future schedule, and other items as necessary.Provides administrative supportOther related duties, as required  ','!*!Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, or other related area is required. Advanced degree in these areas is a plus.0-2 years of experience on a scholarly journal. Skills & Other Requirements: A thorough knowledge of publishing procedures is helpful to perform these job functions. Must have the ability to research, rewrite, copy edit and proofread. Must have excellent English language skills and office procedures (including computer-based procedures); an excellent ability to establish priorities; an ability to process requests promptly and follow up on them; good attention to detail; and a good overall sense of how individual aspects of journal production come together to make a final product. Skills are acquired through a combination of formal education and experience.Must be technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges. Must have working knowledge of software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Knowledge of the functionality of web-based article submission and peer review systems, like ScholarOne Manuscripts, is required. Basic web production skills are also required.
