A print production manager is a key driver for the planning, production, and execution of complex master production schedules. A print production manager works proactively with vendors to ensure continuous improvements and optimal production solutions for new and existing marketing materials and concepts. A print production manager develops specifications for new components with vendors and negotiates effective pricing structures. A print production manager processes and tracks mock-ups, prototypes, electronic templates, and printer proofs with vendors. A print production manager proactively communicates supply chain issues to product teams and coordinates solution implementation. A print production manager oversees the implementation of new purchasing/planning systems and sets up processes/rules to improve the efficiency of the cost quoting process.
A print production manager position requires a bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in a publishing, purchasing, print, project management, or supply chain management environment, in addition to at least two years previous management experience. A print production manager should have excellent communication and negotiating skills. Strong analytical and computer skills (with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio) are also musts.
