Managing Editor Jobs
A managing editor supervises the editing activities of a publication or a publishing house. A managing editor guides the entire production process, ensuring that production and distribution needs are met on schedule and within deadlines.
A managing editor is chiefly responsible for performing developmental and copy editing, providing expertise about editorial processes and managing editorial and production budgets. Additionally, a managing editor also maintains relationships with outside vendors and provides mentorship and guidance to his team of writers, editors, layout designers etc. Other duties include reevaluating internal work systems, undertaking writing tasks when required and ensuring smooth and constant communication between all departments.
To apply for the job of a managing editor, a candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or communication from an accredited institute. Previous editing experience is required. Strong understanding of current publishing, ability to meet deadlines and excellent communication and project management skills are also important.
